A guest lecture was organized by the Department of HRM & General Management on the topic: "Talent Retention: Strategies in the Digital Era."
The session was held for the PGDM 3rd Trimester HR Specialization students (Batch 2024–26), and we invited Mr. Kaushik Basak, Senior HR Business Partner at Harman Connected Services as the speaker. An accomplished alumnus of Ramaiah Institute of Management, Mr. Basak belongs to the batch of 2010–2012. With over 13 years of extensive experience in HR roles across leading organizations like Tata Sky, Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Ltd, Tricon Infotech etc. His expertise spans a wide array of areas, including HR Analytics, Compensation & Benefits, Employee Engagement, and Talent Management.
Mr. Basak eloquently explained why retaining talent is vital for organizations. He highlighted key factors such as reducing costs, preserving institutional knowledge, sustaining productivity, and ensuring stability in business operations. He stressed that a company's focus should be on fostering a positive work culture, engaging employees more effectively, and holding meaningful career conversations to align employee aspirations with organizational goals. During the session, Mr. Basak introduced to the students the "5 C's of Talent Retention" framework—Care, Connect, Coach, Contribute, and Complete—emphasizing the importance of seamlessly integrating these elements.
Additionally, the speaker delved into retention strategies, urging organizations to customize engagement plans, adapt strategies periodically, and enable a high-performance environment. He emphasized the role of leaders in cultivating autonomy and driving performance. He also pointed out the critical need for competitive compensation benchmarking and highlighted the significance of balancing strategy with organizational culture. His quote, "A person is lucky when they are prepared and seize opportunities," resonated strongly with the audience.
Through this engaging session, Mr. Basak encouraged us to embrace continuous adaptation and ensure readiness for future challenges in talent management. The lecture left us with valuable lessons on achieving workforce excellence through thoughtful strategies. We extend our gratitude to the faculty coordinator Dr. V. Padmaja for facilitating such an enlightening learning experience.
