RIM’s FPM develops scholars through advanced research and academic rigor.
The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) at the MS Ramaiah Institute of Management (MSRIM), Bengaluru, is a full-time, residential doctoral programme offering studies in different fields of management. The FPM program aims to prepare Doctoral students for careers in the academia and in the industry. It is so structured to provide both breadth and depth of knowledge and application to FPM scholars in management and its allied areas. The programme has two-fold objective of enabling the participants to master the relevant methodological tools of management research on one hand, and the advancement of the current body of management knowledge on the other.
The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) recognizes the FPM as equivalent to the Ph.D. programme (of a recognized University in India).
Master’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering and Technology/ Management/ Economics/ Social Sciences/ commerce with First class (60%) Shall Considered for admission to Fellow Program and relaxation of 5% for OBC/Backward Class student will be considered in the Master Program for admission.
OR
Postgraduate Diploma (2 years) with at least 60 percent aggregate marks or equivalent grade point average;
OR
Professional qualifications CA, ICWA, CS (with at least 50 percent aggregate marks) along with a B.Com/ Degree (with at least 60 percent aggregate marks);
OR
A five year integrated Master’s degree program in any discipline, with at least 60 percent aggregate marks or equivalent grade point average;
OR
First Class/ equivalent Bachelor’s degree (4 year/8 semesters) with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 out of 10 or equivalent;
The candidates will be shortlisted (on the recommendation of the respective areas) on the based information provided in the application form. The selection process is as follows:
Only the candidates satisfying the requirements mentioned in earlier stages will be considered for the final selection. A merit list will be generated based on the performance in the Personal Interviews and the provisional admission offers will be made. All matters pertaining to admission into the FPM at MSRIM, Bengaluru is governed by the decisions taken by the Admissions Committee.
A prospective FPM candidate can submit the On-line application with all the attachments as required on or before the announcement each academic year.
Selected candidates shall be required to deposit a commitment fee of Rs.50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand only). This fee has to be paid at the time of acceptance of the offer letter by the selected candidate and is to be made vide an online bank transfer. An amount of Rs.30,000/- out of Rs. 50,000/- (commitment fee) deposited by FPM students shall be retained till completion of the programme and refund shall be considered in the following manner.
When applying for admission, the candidate must indicate a primary area and a secondary area of interest.
The FPM typically takes four to five years of study. FPM scholars are required to complete a set of courses, which would expose them across
a) Fundamental theories, concepts and applications in management and related fields and
b) Necessary skills to conduct academic research, write and publish in top international
journals.
The coursework can take between 12 to 24 months, depending upon the student’s previous
educational
background
and performance.
The coursework is composed of a set of core and elective courses.
A. In the first year, FPM students must complete a set of core courses. The total credits from these courses should be 33 or more. In addition to the core courses, all first year FPM students together do the Research Methods (RSM) course. This course is compulsory for all FPM students.
B. The second year focuses on acquiring in-depth knowledge in one’s specialization. The student also gets an exposure to the advanced research courses in the second year. The aim of these courses is to expose FPM scholars, into the process of scholarly management research and supporting them in conducting a critical review of the research aspects, in their area of specialization. The second year courses are divided into three categories:
The FPM student must complete a minimum of four elective courses (Twelve credits). Of these, at least three courses (minimum nine credits) must be from the student’s area of specialization, while other courses can be from different areas. An FPM scholar can also register for additional elective credits (courses) for a nominal fee.
The FPM scholar student must complete four FPM level courses, offered by the different areas. Of these, at least three courses must be from the FPM scholar’s area of specialization, while the fourth course can be from an allied / different area.
All FPM students, regardless of the area of specialization must complete four advanced
doctoral
level
courses.
These four courses are:
1. Advanced Research Methods (ARM, three credits).
2. Advanced Techniques in Research Methods (ATRM, three credits).
3. Pedagogy for Management Teachers (PMT, One and half credits).
4. Academic Writing (AW, One and half credits).
At the end of the coursework, the FPM scholar must complete the Comprehensive Qualifying Examination, that assesses, the student is given two chances to complete the CQE, failing which s/he will be asked to withdraw from the FPM.
The FPM student is generally expected to complete the programme in about 4 to 5 years. The maximum time limit permissible time for the completion of the FPM is 7 years. Students failing to complete the requirements within this period will be deemed to have withdrawn from the program and their candidature in the programme will be closed.

The student is conferred the title "Fellow in Management" on successful completion of all the requirements of the programme.
