About Namma Raste Workshop Conference,
The Namma Raste workshop conference held on December 9th, 2023, in Bengaluru, focused on improving the streets of Bengaluru and was a collaborative effort by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and WRI India under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS).
The primary objective of Namma Raste was to foster discussions and showcase innovative, human-centric designs for Bengaluru's streets and public spaces, emphasizing safety, inclusivity, and resilience. The event attracted participants from architecture colleges, design consultants, citizen groups, and government officials who actively engaged in workshops, group discussions, and exhibitions.
In the conference, a select group of presenters showcased their innovative ideas to tackle road safety issues. They highlighted the daily challenges people face due to insufficient road safety measures, addressing concerns like traffic management, lack of proper footpaths for pedestrians (particularly affecting the elderly), frequent road accidents, and inadequate infrastructure for those with physical disabilities. The presenters focused on proposing effective solutions to enhance safety in public transport, metro systems, and footpaths.
